Froggatt Sunday 19th June
Sunday’s trip to Froggatt didn't turn out quite as nice as we had expected but the weather held off allowing us to get stuck in to some classic Grit Stone routes. I was surprised to see how quite the crag was for a change, perhaps the change in the weather put a few off.
Highlight’s of the Day were Mark Russels lead of Pendestal Crack his first HVS on the Grit, not bad as the routes then to be a tad on the…

Following discussion at recent club meetings we have agreed to adopt the following policy concerning the involvement of young people (less than eighteen years of age) in the club’s activities.
The Mountaineering Club of Bury wishes to promote the involvement of all parts of the community in adventurous outdoor activities. We want to ensure that, through the club, people are able to participate in these activities safely and within the policies and guidance of the British…

Well, the afternoon's rain meant that it was slippery under foot and the vegetation was very wet where the controls were off-track but there was a window of dry weather so that the earliest finishers got round before the drizzle started again. Although some found a few of the control points a bit challenging, everybody seemed to enjoy the event. We did get a bit anxious about Derek's late return and were thinking of putting the MRT on notice - although to be fair he was the last starter. An…

Rick has provided 11 maps for this, so we are all set.
Just in case you were thinking of wearing shorts for this on account of the fine warm weather I have organised for Wednesday evening, I would advise against as you are likely to encounter nettles and brambles.
Don't forget to bring a pencil or pen for marking your control card.

Around 15 of us spent a a superb bank holiday weekend climbing in Pembroke. The forecast was for wet weather, yet we almost completely avoided rain (though as anyone who has seen Rick's video footage of my brush with the sea knows, I for one didn't avoid getting wet!). The weather turned out fine. Me, Gary, Derek and Rick arrived late on friday night. We got the tent up and got out heads down, while Mark, Lewis, Will, Jordan and Brian upset the rest of the campsite by constructing something…

I was looking for a rope bucket when I happened upon a video of Adam Ondra climbing Chaxi Raxi in Spain on this site.

Friday afternoon myself, Ian, Colin and Pete did a little scramble (grade 3 with 2 stars) at the back of the hut on a buttress to the right of the descent path on the Buchaille. Lovely grippy rock and although it was wet it was a fantastic warm up for the rest of the weekend. Only an hour to complete it, but then the weather came in bad and it was hail-stoning hard. Then 10 minutes later glorious sunshine, so we sweat our way back down to the hut to wait for the rest to arrive. Theron…

In the heat of the Friday afternoon sunshine the team rendezvoused at Jordon HQ, aka, his mum and dad's house. Mark Russell kindly relieved me from my house-husbandly duties on route, and there we met Will, Tony, and a rather 'loose-bowelled' and ever so eager Jordon.
The plan was simple. Make our way to Troy and climb until sunset, fill our boots at the local carvery for £3.65, and then make our way to Borrowdale for the night with the prospect of climbing at…

I've got to say it, but I think I have just had one of my best days out in the mountains for a long time. Following an early start myself, Ian & Lou, Colin P, Theron & Debs met up in the car park in the shadow of Cadair Idris. Our plans for the day were to climb Table Direct (VD**), leading on to Cyfrwy Arete (D**). After a really pleasant walk in we arrived at the base of our route. We climbed in three pairs, Ian & Lou leading off, shortly followed by Theron & Debs, with…

Bags packed for the last 3 weeks and Geoff continually checking weather forecast for Scotland on the net every night. Just a little bit keen........Finally the perfect weekend had arrived and we were all set to go. I must admit I was a little worried at the prospect of tagging along with 2 super strong, super fit fellas (Rick `n Geoff). I am certainly not in that league.............Got loads of stamina yeah but as for strength and moving fast.......That aint me! Do they really want me to tag…

The information signs on The A55 were warning drivers of fog patches, and they weren't lying. The view from the car window wasn't looking promising. It looked like it was going to be another one of those days in Wales, lots of hard work and no reward; with regards to views anyway.
We made good time and were soon parked up on the A5 at the bottom of North Ridge. We got ourselves suited and booted and made a…
