Froggatt Sunday 19th June
Sunday’s trip to Froggatt didn't turn out quite as nice as we had expected but the weather held off allowing us to get stuck in to some classic Grit Stone routes. I was surprised to see how quite the crag was for a change, perhaps the change in the weather put a few off.
Highlight’s of the Day were Mark Russels lead of Pendestal Crack his first HVS on the Grit, not bad as the routes then to be a tad on the hard side for us softy Lancy lads. Gary's put nerves to the back of his mind with a bold lead of Three Pebble Slab HVS "given E1 in some guides" this is proving to be Gary’s come back year. Tony lead the classic Sunset Crack HS 4c, he’s having to up his game ready for the lads trip to Spain in November.
New Jordon turned up for a flying visit seconding several VS's in good style, not bad considering that he's only just started climbing.
Entertainment of the day was a mass ascent of a subterranean route up in to the bowls of the earth credit to Tony for showing the way. Everyone else had to follow suit otherwise we wouldn't have heard the last of it, with Mark soon realizing that Caving will NOT be on his list of activities.
Also Jordan (Fingers)Taylor’s acrobatics on Hawks Nest Crack when he fell off in good style leaving his foot insitue, fortunately no harm done only to his pride. I had promised myself to get at least one HVS done, so was pleased to get Tody’s under my belt.
By 4pm the Young Guns were off home, leaving the Oldies to slip a couple more routes in to hit the target 10 routes. Not a bad day at all.
Know doubt the day wet everyone’s appetite to get back on the grit very soon, I know I’ve got an appointment with some of the other HVS’s there, and Jordon’s got to get his street cred back as well; I know that Hawks Nest Crack has not seen the last of him!
Let’s hope the weather plays ball over the summer.
Thanks for a great day boys
