Hi - does anyone feel able to respond to the appeal below?
Dave Dickson and I have been involved for a long time but I have now left the area and Dave is probably reaching his last fifty years of useful service (sorry to be so blunt, Dave).
Putting Something Back
If you are from near Bury (Lancashire) and love the outdoors, want to promote opportunities for young people to enjoy the Lakes at minimal cost, have enjoyed using the Bury…

I am keen to get to the Himalayas or perhaps the Andes next year. I'd prefer to go with trusted cronies - so if you might be keen on the same thing please let me know, otherwise I'll book on an Exodus trip (I had to explain to Caroline this is not a one way journey to Switzerland!) in October as an individual. Mark’s suggestion of a days climbing on Tryfan sounded just the ticket and soon the team had grown to 6 lads all keen to get a good mountain day under their belts. On the way down it was raining quite heavy and with a good weather forecast we were beginning to feel cheated. As we drove down the A5 into Ogwen the rain stopped just as we were parking up right on queue, perhaps the weather men had got it right for once. Walking in under Millstone Buttress on the approach to Heather Terrace…

There were just three of us, Andy, Dave and myself. Work gave up the fight on Friday and we were away in mid afternoon; heading for the western end of loch Arkaig at the southern end of Knoydart; a remote spot. We sheltered from the rain in the Moffat Chippy as we have done many times before pressing on to begin the walk-in. Our wild life drive revealed a pine martin, lots of deer and a dancing fox. An hour and a half's walk in the wind, rain and darkness brought us to an empty bothy. It's…

The day went better than expected; with almost 50 turning out from the Bolton ConservationVolunteer group and the climbing fraternity which include 8 from the Mob.
It was obvious as we struggled to make our way to the designated location that this was not going to be your average clean up day. When I was told we where clearing Rhododendrons I hadn’t envisaged how big the task would be, thankfully the Volunteers had and they were well prepared. The basic brief was that the…

I have a copy of this book for sale, which I bought for our trip to Rjukan a few years back. Its in pristine condition, clear protective cover and wonderful colour photos and highlighted routes in the Rjukan area.
If anyone is interested in this the asking price is £12.00 - we will be coming over to the Photo Comp on the 21st December so can bring it along then.
Sue also has a pair of Footfang crampons for sale too - £15.00

For the past 30 years members of the Mountaineering Club of Bury have had strong links with Lakes based Longsleadale Out Door Pursuits Centre (LOPC), with many members belonging to both groups. I myself have fond memories of the Centre having spent a lot of time there in the late 70s and early 80s, as many others I've moved on but not forgot my links. I I I I After reviving a flyer from the centre promoting a taster day on Nov 5th to boost instructor numbers. This got me thinking that we…

The club's financial system is very primitive. We collect subs, pay more than half of what we collect to the BMC, act as a bank for various (self financing) trips and occasionally buy sandwiches, pay YHA subscriptions or buy some of the bits and pieces we cannot borrow.
Analysts will recognise immediately that:

Dear Club Contact,
Please would you make your club & committee aware of the following series of specialist training courses that the BMC will be running for Club Members over the next 12 months?

I picked up Derek and Jordan, both of whom had drank rather a lot the night before (that's 4 whole pints for Derek!). The usual conversation ensued as we wound along the road towards Snake pass. Jordan was recounting a recent, rather humorous incident involving some awkward positioning, a bit of heavy lifting leading to a tweaked neck and some smelly substance (you don't need or want to know the details - honestly) when Derek suddenly announced he was going to be sick. I pulled over, all…
