Phase two clean up at Deeply

After last years revamp of Deeply by the members of the Mob, we decided to start on phase two project of digging out the next bouldering bay on the left. After doing an exploratory dig last year I knew that the going wouldn't be that hard, that said it still needed shifting and my back always complains afterwards . We decided that rather than barrowing all the soil away we would just pull the soil away from the face and while making the face higher it would give a nice large ledge for the bouldering mats. Friday after a hard week at work is never a good time to start picking a spade up but with the digging machine along side it didn't feel that bad . One hour later we'd almost finished our program for the night and it was looking very good, but would we be able to climb the blank wall only time would tell. Just time to give it a quick wash and a good scrub before heading off home. On the way back to the car I could tell that Jordy was twitching to get back on the wall so we decided to take advantage of the Saturday forecast and Morning Sun to get straight back up.
As hoped the weather was beautiful and the crag was in tip top condition. Jordy gave the wall another good scrub leaving it to dry while we nipped up Slab Dab and Renegade Corner both my first routes of the season. Now it was time for the main event, would it go? or had it been a waist of effort. I thought it only right (as he'd done most of the work) to let Jordy have first shot at the even higher bolder problem and give him an even bigger smile. On the first attempt Jordy had to use the left wall with his hand just to get started before finishing up the right arete, not the desired result though. I wasn't long before we both managed to figure it out climbing straight up the middle of the face with a scary finish. We'd got it in the bag, well Chuffed and probably around English 5c ish making it a good complement to the lovely right hand arete which goes at about 5a ish but again quite scary for the grade.
Not satisfied with our efforts, Four of us have since been up again and dug out another 18 inches to finish off this bay, will we still be able to do the problem only time will tell, you'll just have to come up on Saturday to find out, I know you'll have to be very early to beat Jordon to it!
I'm proud of the Mob when I hear the comments from other clubs on the hard great work we've put, making Deeply a valued venue to visit in the north west with several teams climbing there last year.
Lets hope we have some good weather to take advantage of all the hard work this year. Bring it on.
