Night Orienteering in Ramsbottom

Last month Daniel and I took part in a South Ribble Orienteering Club Night time event in Ramsbottom. Many years ago I did a few for the club around the Bury area which proved very popular. Back then the map was a very basic photocopy of the A-Z. (The photo shows a sample of the map we will be using)

We were very impressed with the event and the up to date map so much so I've purchased some maps to host our own event. We will be meeting at the Major pub in Rammy and teams of two will be set off at intervals of 1 min from 6.30 to 7.30 ish with an hour to get around (score event) as many controls as possible taking numbers from mainly telegraph poles, lamp posts and Hydrant markers. For every minute you're late back points will be deducted giving you a total score. No one will be allow to take part without a hi vis vest or cag as you will be crossing plenty of roads and we don't want any mishaps. It is important that if you're coming to indicate on the web site as at the moment I've only got 10 sets of maps so I will need to get some more sorted.    

Bring a torch, pen, marker pen to plot your route and a compass may be handy Mobile phone just in case you need to phone up.     

If we have time we should be able to give the results out on the night if not I will send them out via the website, either way the pub serves some great beers.                        Please keep an eye on the web site just in case the weather is very bad and we would probably postpone the event till another night.                                             Regards Derek & Mike Chambers
