A beginner's paradise - short routes including several easy ones - equipped with stakes at the top and an opportunity to either rig top roped climbs or bag some outdoor leading.
the crag is at GR 708 182. its marked on maps as "Fairy Battery". The approach is a 15 minute walk along a pleasant forest track.
Access is from the A666 (park in Green Arms Lane - the road heading to Turton - B6391). The track leaves the A666 from a gate 50m north of the road junction. After a sweeping bend to the left descend to a footbridge to cross a stream and the crag will be obvious.
I am aiming to be around at 6 ish but have my fingers crossed about having to work in Birmingham and this might delay me.
If the weather is dodgy make up your own mind about an alternative - my phone no. is 07918 654230. If we are diverting to a wall we could perhaps make it Bolton One (although I have never used it and it may be best to check we can actually get in).
Finally watch out for midges if it is a still evening!
Mike

This is a great place for members to cut there teeth and get there leaders badge (-: As Gill said we are going to the natural outcrop opposite the quarry, although there are some worth will routes in the quarry.
Directions are as follows.
Fifty meters north of the B6391 Turton Rd (Green Arms lane) is a bus stop and a track signposted Egerton leads through woods and past a small quarry, then round the shoulder of the hill into the main quarry at Yarndale delf in lest than 10 mins. the the other quarries lie past this. The Castle rocks (where we are going) mark Fairy Battery in the natural on the sunny side of the valley opposite the quarries. GR 708 182. Hope this helps
