This emerged after a few pints down the pub with my friend Ross. Ross doesn't have enough time to bag more Wainwrights let alone Munroes. What could we do more locally? We came up with The Wilsons. The highest point in each of the 10 local authorities in Greater Manchester. These can be found at the Hill Bagging website under County Tops and I've also set up aFacebook page

Go on Bag A Wilson today..

And why not promote the local area.  Perhaps if you've got one left in the autumn you could organise a Mob walk to tie it in.  You'd have to have some obligatory champagne on the top for us all though.

Regards Derek

The real challenge is to do all ten in under 24 hours. With a car I think it would be possible. Trafford's is someones front garden, Salford's is on a golf course, and Wigan is small hill. But things starts to get serious with Bolton, Tameside, Oldham, Bury, Rochdale, and Stockport, because they're on the Pennines. With a finish in Heaton Park for Manchester. The Anthony Wilson's Manchester Challenge.

We did consider many things on the way up to Black Chew Head including a 24 hour event or even the Manchester equivelent of the Bob Graham. We think it is entirely possible in under 24hours without a car, using train, bike and foot starting and finishing at Piccadilly Station. Bagged Heaton Park on the way back from work yesturday. Might go for Scholes/Bull Hill this Thursday.

The Chew Valley ones would make a good walk. You get to bag two Wilsons including GMs highest point, have a quick boulder at Wimberry and for those not driving and taking the train you can stop off at StalyVegas and get smashed in the Famous Buffet Bar on the way back.

Hope the bike ride went well. I'd cycled 20 mile to and from work today so didn't fancy doing it again off road.
