Event Description

Evening mountain bike ride aimed at average and above. Starting at the Church inn in Birtle off castle hill road. Meet at 17:45 to start at 18:00 on Wednesday 13/8/14. I have done this ride numerous times and sure others of you have it generally takes me 2 hours 30 minutes with a few breaks. Should still be light enough to complete before dusk. The ride is a circuit and will finish back at the Church inn for refreshments!
Brief description:
Up castle hill road towards Buckhurst school, up to Edenfield road A680, this should be around 30 minutes. Left onto the A680 for a mile, then left at fecit hill and up the coal road to the turbines on top of moor, this is around a 30 minute steady climb. At the top follow the track to the right towards the furthest turbine and down to the disused ding quarry. Make your way through the quarry (I find it best to stick to the lower middle part). Here you will pick up Rooley moor road all this is around 30 minutes. Now all the hard work is done follow the cobbled road down bearing right towards the reservoirs and here follow the track down to Norden. Cross the main road and take the track at the back of Norden motor garage, follow the track all the way through to school lane. At the end of the lane turn onto Ashworth road down hill to the Rochdale/bury old road. Right here a sharp up hill and then back to the church via birtle road.
