The Island of Lundy
As most of you know we are planning another trip to the magical island of Lundy. The Mob has had many successful trips to Lundy over the years the last one being in 2012. Situated 12 miles of shore in the Bristol channel Lundy is only 3 miles long by half mile wide and its windy plateau is 125 meters above the sea.
Lundy is indeed a special place with no roads or cars and a hamlet at the southern end of the island with only one pub, where no mobiles are allowed and there's no television, and supplies can be bought from the only shop.
The National Trust own the island and employ all the residents, visitors arrive by a twice weekly ferry to the harbour followed by a 15min climb up to the hamlet. Fortunately baggage can be transported up via tractor and trailer and is dropped at your accommodation. As per usual we will be staying in the Barn accommodation which sleeps 14 person in two dormitory rooms. Limited camping is also available at around the same price in the next field with ample showers and wash rooms.
As for the climbing Lundy has some of the finest sea cliff climbing in the country with cliff up to 100meters rising straight out of the sea. Grades range from VD up to E? With routes to suit all tastes and styles. As with all sea cliff climbing everyone needs to be a competent leader with a head for heights and capable of absiling which is the only way to reach some of the cliffs. Even the none tidal crags have some tricky scrambles. This area also has the second highest tide range in the world of 15 meters so needs respect and timing to reach some of the routes. All that said there is some fantastic routes to be had and classics like Diamond solitaire and The Devils Slide and plenty of others to numerous to mention are not to be misted, a stay on the Island leaves a lasting memory and keeps you coming back for more.
We did have this booked for 2013 but it had to be postponed due to lack of interest, there are already 4 places taken up so that only leaves 10 more and camping of course. Due to the sharp increase in climbers in the club I know there will be a big interest in this trip so if you want a place Paid up members need to get a deposit in to me for £50 with the balance to be paid by the end of the year to tidy things up.
Then we can book the Ferry and Friday night accommodation next year
Cost
Barn per head = £104
Ferry approximately £70
Friday nights accommodation on the mainland £15 ish (Ferry leaves early Saturday)
Petrol down (shared cars)
Food and beer which can be bought on the island or taken as luggage.
You have got till the end of June to get your deposits in after that I will be throwing it out to none members who are waiting in the wings.
If you want and more information take a look at the UKC

Greetings everyone you will be please to know that we are fully booked up for the big trip, the last two places being taken by two lads from London / Cornwall.
I will be booking the Ferry from Ilfracombe this weekend so that will be all sorted. We have a meeting on the 5th Aug at the White lion in Bury so it would be nice if we could meet up for a final chat before the trip. Kind regards Derek
Note we are sailing from Ilfracombe (Note Not Bidiford)

Check out Lundy sailing information. I will do a block booking for 13 people as we still have got one spare place. Sailing on Saturday 29th Aug return 5 Sept £64.00
Note we will need to be at the docks for 8am to load up the kit on to the Ferry, if you don't manage this you will have to carry your bags on. All kit will then be taken via trailer up to the accommodation. Last time we had to wait 2 hours to get our kit so if you want to climb as soon as you get there carry your climbing kit for the day with you. Please can you get in touch with me regards payment.
