Minutes for meeting 28th April 2010
Ian has sent off another 4 new memberships to the BMC.
Will Shaw and Mark Russell have been busy sorting out the funding application to the BMC to replace the Mob Rack and get some additional kit! Let’s hope our application is successful as our kit is getting very tired and it would come in handy with the recent influx of new members.
Tony Hewitt and my self paid a visit to the BMC clean up at Wilton 1. Over the last few years there has been cleaning in the quarry and it is getting better. The BMC are encouraging climbers to take it upon there selves as clubs or individuals to get down and clean routes as and when they can. It had been suggested that perhaps climbers could adopt a route to look after, although this had not been formally put forward.
Members of the club had shown an interest in doing some cleaning in the future, if any ones got any ideas pass them on.
After Dom’s evenings talk at the club he kindly suggested organizing a leading skills night at the crag. With some members just starting to lead it was thought to be a good thing and an opportunity not to be missed
I was asked that members used the club web site to promote mid week climbing nights and that everyone get into the habit of checking what’s on, on a regular bases.
Reports
Ian Brewster’s usual report
Saturday 24th April I had a walk starting at Dalegarth Station, Eskdale. Went up past Blea Tarn, into Mitredale, up the valley to Burnmoor Tarn, up Scafell, along the ridge S to Slight Side, back down to Burnmoor Tarn, over Boat How, then back down to Boot in Eskdale and along to Dalegarth. A late start, at 11:10am, with a 6:30 finish. Nice and warm, but hazy so not great for distant views. Walked in shorts, and shoes rather than boots, for first time this year. Didn't see any other walkers whilst in Mitredale, unusual for anywhere in the Lake District.
Last weekend 4 of us went back to Stanage AGAIN highlight to the day was Will Shaw’s lead of Heather Wall his first VS! Know doubt it won’t be his last, well done Will.
The Climbing Night at Troy was well attended with 15 turning out; the weather was good and not a sign of any midges. Mark Russell lead a very stiff VS, Tony Hewitt lead a HS and Pete Whethem also leading. It was good to see new lads taking the lead and getting on the sharp end of the rope. This just shows that time the more experienced climbers have put in to bring the new climbers on is starting to pay divvies.
Next meet 12th May is the AGM, know need to hide away as all the new officers are sorted. We are putting some butties on as well so come down and support the meet and catch up on what’s been going on.
Kind regards
Derek
Coming events
11th May Tuesday night a few of us will be going down to Wilton One from about 4.30pm onwards. I've not climbed there this year and thought I'd have a look at the outcome of the recent BMC cleaning session. All welcome.
May 15th Ian Brewster’s Walk will be from lower end of Ennerdale. May be possible to travel part way by coach, joining coach at Penrith. If you want any more information speak to Ian.
June 8th High House hut meet
Better known to older members as the K Shoes hut, this has been a popular and successful venue for club meets in the past. Ideally located just past Seathwaite Farm, with lots of options for walking, climbing and scrambling. 25 places, still a few available but going fast and at £5 a night it’s the best value hut in town.
