Had an afternoon in Manchester looking at boots. I'm a scrambler looking at doing more winter stuff currently my experience is grade 2/3 in the wet but more comfortable with 2 in the ice. I need a boot that will take a crampon as my summer boots are too flexible. Do I go all the way to B3 expensive...compromise B2 ....bit cheaper £179 or B1 (raichle lite GTX B1) v. cheap £89 with £50 off in a sale at Cotswolds as most of my winter stuff is likely to be walking/scrambling rather than any serious climbing at present.

Stuart the ice numpty.

After much @rsing around I got some Scapa mantas B2 at £167 were £190 but VAT discount and I asked and also got 10% for being in Bury M C and some C2 grivel GSB Crampons which have a metal tab which fits in the end of the boot and clips into the heel, £60 again with discount. Tried them out on Sunday (See Eel crag picies) and 100% pleased. I got them from Cotwolds in Manchester Oxford Rd. just North of St Peters Sq. The old bloke there is a bit dour but knows his stuff.
