Due to the poor weather the alternate climbing meet at Summit had to be moved indoors to Stockport wall. The night was well turned out with lads learning to belay and Mark Russell (new member) Stuart Rodgers and Brian Knowles leading for the first time.

Wednesday before the Mob meeting several of us took advantage of the good weather and went up to Troy quarry, breezy sunny weather helped to make it a good night.
Mark Russell not having done much climbing outside was shown the ropes, comfortably seconding several routes to VS.
Barry Simson lead a VS for the first time, nice on Barry.
Brain Knowles had been to Caddshaw during the day doing also doing a few first time leads, finishing off at Troy with us, full day for him.

Pete Whetham report on walk around kinder

Having parked up at the quarry at the end of the Kinder Road, I walked upto and passed Kinder Reservoir, then climbed Williams Clough, and then the final accent onto the edge of Kinder Plateau. I took the western edge first passed Sandy Heys, and on to Kinder Downfall, eventually reaching Kinder Low. Now for the southern edge, After a lunch break at Pym Chair, I made my way to the top of Grindsbrook Clough. The weather upto now had been a mixed bag of sunshine and showers. However the showers gave way and I enjoyed fair conditions for the rest of the walk, which took me to the most easterly point of Kinder at Mad Woman Stones. I then crossed the moor to pick up the northern edge and my return leg home, (which for a July weekend was suprisingly empty), and hardly met a sole all along the northern edge, which took me passed Seal Stones, Fairbrook, and Fairbrook Naze. Finally I took the Edge, and my return to the top of Williams Clough, and my decent back to the quarry, and a well earned pint in Hayfield. In all a very good but strenuous days walking.

Jeff Horton had been scrambling in the upper Eskdale valley.

The BMCs Gower Climbing Festival is taking place over the weekend of the 4th 6th September.
Its an opportunity for you to come and experience what the Gower peninsula has to offer on its limestone cliffs and beautiful beaches.
There's plenty of climbing for everyone, with trad routes from Diff to Extreme, sport routes from Fr6a+ to Fr8a, and some bouldering too.

The locals will be on hand to give you the best advice about where to go, full colour topos will be on sale for those of you who don't have guidebooks, and the sunshine has been booked in advance (as usual).
Visit the Festival website for more info. As time goes by, further details will be added. Inevitably, there is a Farcebook group through which you can invite your mates, and we'd also appreciate it if you would download the poster and pin it up at your local wall.
In the coming weeks we are planning to show some training films on rock climbing, when we can get some one with a lap top to work with the projector!

I have found out that if you type in Mountaineering club of Bury in Google we come straight up, it’s a lot easier than trying to remember the club web site when spreading the word to other enthusiasts.

Dave Dixon who is on the running circuit has asked me to pass on this information.
