Reports

On a climbing note several team have been taking advantage of the light nights and climbing in the evening at Edgerton and Angelzarke.

Will had been to the Lakes for the week to the Duddon Valley managing some bouldering done.

Ian Brewster has been wandering across the Isle of Sky

The week starting Saturday 23rd May I had a full week in Scotland, most of the time on Skye.
Over the first 3 days did a circular backpack walk from Portree.
Day 1: From Portree, Northwards along the ridge of hills above the E coast, to Storr Lochs, then along the main road to Staffin. Camped on the moors(next to Loch Cleap) between Staffin and Quiraing. Rained virtually all day.
Day 2: Went up to The Quiraing and had a good look around the rock formations and pinnacles, then up onto Meall na Suiramach which is the hill summit above the cliffs. After a haggis butty from the hot food van at the Quiraing parking
area, set off S along the Trotternish Ridge. Walked about half of it before dropping down on the W side to camp beside a river(Abhainn Dubh). Again rained all day, with mist on the high ground.
Day 3: Back up to rejoin the Trotternish Ridge, then continued S to complete it at summit of The Storr. Descent to main road and along the road back to Portree. Indian restaurant meal there before driving down to camp at Sligachan. Dzizzly rain and mist in morning. Cleared as I came down off The Storr, so got good views of the Old Man and other rock pinnacles.
Day 4: A scrambly walk up Sgurr an Fheadain(offshoot NW from main Black Cuillin ridge at Bidean Druim nan Raimh),from Glen Brittle road just S of its highest point. Then drove down to Glen Brittle campsite and walked up into upper part of Coire Laggan, and back. Camped a second night at Sligachan. Showery weather in morning, then fine in the afternoon.
Day 5: In the morning, drove to Ramasaig on the W coast and did a circular walk taking in the tops of the sea cliffs near Neist Point(most westerly point of Skye, with lighthouse). Drizzly rain again, and in mist most of the time on
cliff tops so didn't get the views. In the afternoon drove down to Elgol then walked the coast path to Camasunary. Camped overnight beside stream ~half mile N of the house there(not the bothy). Had a short walk in the evening up to
Loch an Creitheach, which is a little way along the Sligachan path. Fine weather in the afternoon and evening.
Day 6:Drizzly rain again in the morning. Walked back to Elgol, retracing yesterday's route. Then drove to Sconser, caught ferry to Raasay, and did a circular walk there taking in part of coastline, Raasay Forest, site of old
iron mine at top edge of forest, and along the line of the old mine railway. Overnight camp in woodland at Inverarish village.
Day 7: Early morning ferry back to Sconser, then a drive to Glen Nevis campsite. Afternoon/evening walk. From the campsite, down the Glen, along main road to distillery, up the path behind distillery(old starting point for walking to Coire Leis) then via landrover tracks to join Allt a Mhuilinn path near top edge of forest. Up to CIC hut, and had look inside( a first for me - 'posher' than I expected), then along the path traversing round to Lochan Meall an-t-Suidhe. Up to summit of The Ben by tourist route, the down this route to the campsite. Hordes of people descending tourist route as I went up, and still plenty of people at summit ~6:00pm. Glorious hot sunny weather - felt I'd earned it after all the poor weather earlier in the week.
Day 8(Sat 30th): A short early morning walk taking in Neptune's Staircase(the series of locks on Caledonian Canal at Corpach as it drops down to sea level and connects with Loch Linnhe), then drove home.

Keith, Tommo, Nigel Burke and John Spencer had been Road biking and Island hoping around the West coast of Scotland, managing to avoid the terrible weather we had at home.

Mike Chambers bank holiday Mabbie weekend in the Scottish boards was reported to have been a great success.
