Event Description

Just been speaking to Dave Evans regards the Kalymnos trip Oct 2014

He is planning to look at doing a block booking for paid up club members at the end of August,  If your not a full member and you'd like to go now's your chance to pay your due's, if not your more than welcome to sort it out yourselves and join us.

Just to Re cap

The club had a big trip out there a few years ago which went down extremely well, rock climbing, walking and a dam good social event

AS for this next trip

It looks like we will have a 7 hour wait on the mainland before taking the ferry over to Kalymnos. Fortunately there is a bar so we will be able to have refreshments and a meal to kill some of the time. Again Dave is looking to book us in hotel accommodation with us eating out in the town in the evenings.

Cost will be £450.00 which includes flights hotel and breakfast
Then all you need is spending money and some insurance

See the write up in Rock Fax.

Kalymnos is the fourth largest island in the Dodecanese chain of Greek islands, which include Kos and Rhodes, situated close to the Turkish mainland. While small at only 40 square miles it packs in an amazing range of routes on its limestone cliffs, and it's size makes it ideal for getting around without a hire car. The best of the climbing (at the moment) is concentrated around the small tourist town of Massouri, a 20 minute taxi ride from the island capital and ferry port of Pothia. Many quality 1 and 2-pitch sport routes from fine F4+ slabs to overhanging F8b stamina fests have been developed, with some spectacular climbing available on tufas and stalactites. Autumn and Springtime are the best times for climbing, with most crags in the shade until mid-afternoon, allowing you to enjoy a well deserved siesta on the beach or a swim in the sea after a hard morning of climbing.

If you'd like to go email Dave Evan's (wheelsage1@hotmail.co.uk) with the following details

I've not booked yet so I'll look into it. My current plan has some long airport waits which are never fun.

Hi Steven Have you booked yet? we've all gone on a package holiday set up, did you speak to Adam? I've given him all the information so book some more places. D

So I'm coming to Kalymnos. I thought I'd share my convoluted flight plan with you. It's complicated but it does work out quite cheap and gets me to Kalymnos from Croatia via Belgrade and Athens.

First flight is Belgrade to Athens 00:30 to 3:00  4th October. Then there's a load of time to kill at the airport before I flying to kalymnos 13:10 to 14:10. Then I fly back to Athens on the 11th 14:30 to 15:30 then to Manchester 19:30 to 21:30.

You may have noticed I'm leaving a day early. This is because it is far more practical to fly the 11th than the 12th.
