MOB meeting – July 2015

Meeting chaired TH, minutes JB, members present 9

Apologies: DK

1.    New chairman’s  address

Plans were outlined to build on the club’s current activities and to extend these for instance including booking huts not used before and building up the climbing.

2.    Climbing

It was hoped to host a series of weekly climbing meets but it was strongly recommended (JB) that meets should only go onto the web when someone was willing to take responsibility for the meet i.e. committing to turn up.  This avoids people turning up to climb and being the only person present as has happened on a number of recent occasions.

Also, when appropriate, people climbing in the vicinity to add details to the web so others can add in if they wish.

3.    Club meets

A call also went out for members to think about ideas for slide shows/ speakers etc. for the monthly meets.

4.    YHA card

Has been renewed for group use until March 2016

5.    Kit

It was suggested that a library list of videos and club crag guides would be useful which could be posted on the web.

It was also suggested that some of the climbing kit should be left with the climbers such as helmets and harnesses as then they would be used.

6.    Nepal update

£100 was raised during the Nepal fundraiser and has been sent to the relief effort. JM

7.    Training grants update

We are still waiting to hear confirmation of whether or not the grants have been awarded and this is being chased up.  It does sound like we may have been successful but there was some dispute with the BMC about club numbers which should now have been resolved.  (JB)

8.    First aid kit

A suggestion was made that it would be useful for the club to buy a club first aid kit for use on events.  Many members thought this was a good idea and further to this Ron Price offered to host some first aid training at the next meeting. (RP)

9.    Reports

Both the fell run and the orienteering proved to be popular events and it is hoped to hold similar events soon.

10. Map skills walk

An interest was expressed to have a mountain walk in which members could practise map reading skills.  Ian Brewster offered to sort something for August. (IB)

11. Winter hut meet

A hut has been booked for March at LaganGarbh in Scotland.  Further details to follow but 14 places (11 left) at £10 pppn.

12. Upcoming events

Tues 7/7/16 – Wilton 3, climbing – Jordan Taylor

Fri 17/7/16 – Deeply Vale, climbing – Ron Price

Unresolved issues

Are we compiling a library list and if so who is doing it?

Will the climbing kit be left with the climbers and if so, who?

Who is purchasing the first aid kit and who will look after it?

Next meeting

Weds 5th August.
