On the Saturday looking out of the window at the beautiful weather my mind drifted to our planned walk the following day,  I as everyone else knew that the window of good weather wasn't going to last and by late afternoon things had already started to change.  The first of the winter walks would go ahead bad weather or not, and I knew we have a reasonable turn out.  That night was Geoff and Julies Halloween party which ended up a great night, only problem was I didn't get to bed till 2am, good job Ann had reminded me that the clocks went back, at least I get an extra hour in bed!
8am the Bury crowd met up and we headed north to meet up with everyone else, although it was a dank rainy morning it wasn't as bad as expected but we hadn't got into the Lakes yet. By 10am we had gathered at LOPC (Longsledale Out Door Pursuits center) greeted by Dave one of the center's instructors who had kindly put on tea and biscuits.
From the center it's a short walk over in to the main valley to Till's Hole where we picked up the path over to Kentmere.  The going is steep and most of us had a sweaty climb up to the col where you turn right up on the to Shipman's Knot.  The forecasted heavy rain and high winds where thankfully not making an appearance and we even had a few views. By the time we reached Kentmere Pike we where all ready for a rest and refuel, spirits where still high as made use of the wall and sheltered out of the wind. I had planned to go over Harter Fell and Adm's Seat, but decided to head down to Wren Gill quarry to have a look around the workings.  It had been a long time since I'd explored that area and I'd forgotten how interesting it is, with it's impressive waterfall and caves.  From here its just an easy plod down the valley giving folk chance to chat and catch up.  By 3pm we were back at the center enjoying a nice cup of tea and a biscuit, a good finish to the day.  As usual the Mob made the most of the day and got out there, it's surprising that it's never as bad when you get out, especially with a good crowd.  Thanks to all though's that made the effort to turn out with a special thanks to LOPC for allowing us to use the Center   Also to Dave for making the walk more enjoyable with is knowledge of the local area and for sorting out the refreshments.

That's my walk done, I look forward to the next one.

Regards Derek

A Rite of passage

It was the Friday night of our February winter meet . We were the first to arrive at the Alex McIntyre hut near North Ballachulish and had ventured out in search of somewhere to eat . As we doubled back from a wrong turn in search of the Loch  Leven Hotel  John B took a call from Andy A suggesting the forecast for the following day favoured doing the  Aonach Eogach ridge. The conversation continued and the next thing I knew we were committed !

The following day we rose at…
