Our friend Geoff

Dear all

It is with regret that I have to inform you that Geoff Fletcher Passed away last Friday night. He had been ill for quite a few years but had not let it get him down and he stayed as active as he could right up to the end.

Geoff started coming out with the club back in the early 80's and came on many weekends.

He had been a very keen walker and fell runner "Probably…

Off belay(in the spirit of the UKC forum)

There seems to be such an uncanny resemblance amongst club members(evidenced by the photos we all choose to display on "my page") .Has anyone else noticed this extraordinary fact and come up with a possible expanation ?

Cheers

Weekend in the lakes

What amazing weather we had for our long overdue weekend in the Lakes! ` Little Chamonix` was our goal and after waiting for the Autumn sunshine to warm the wind chilled rocks we set off en route. The first pitch proved quite daunting to me and much harder than it looked since some of the rocks were worn quite smooth in places. At the back of my mind I was trying to picture the tricky move yet to come and was feeling a little worried and rather shaky. The…

Mike and Caroline en France

It’s a simple formula; drive to Dover, catch the ferry, sleep somewhere cheap and enjoy the Alps in glorious sunshine. But it rained, heavily and our remote village near Le Desert on the GR54 offered bread twice per week…and little…

Rick on Sling Tests

Sorry I haven't worked out how to add a comment to your blog ,Rick.Just to let folks who picked up on your blog a discussion about the video is still running on UKC's Forum Latest .Think the heading is'How to break nylon and Dyneema slings' and was posted last Saturday.

Falls on slings!! You should see this....... quite surprising.

An interesting test video which opened my eyes to the limitations of equipment. And being a fat bastard ie. more than 80kg....a little worrying!

The morel of the story....tie in with your rope. Don't attach to the belay with a sling only and certainly dont then step above it.
